I have always loved learning and hold a huge passion for any creative opportunities. I was born and raised in Southern California. My focus was interior design before moving to Canada permanently in 2009 after marrying my husband, Frank who is Canadian. With no family or friends residing in Canada I found myself desiring community and belonging. 

My first year in Canada I worked in design. After becoming a stay at mom in 2010, I felt the urge to find a creative outlet. Being home with my kids and their constant cookie cravings is what led to explore baking, specifically the decorating and design aspect. The design aspect of it really caught my attention and I started by teaching myself decorative sugar cookies. Back then (in 2010) combining cookie decorating and edible pieces of art was such a new concept. Social media was not used as a educational or marketing tool. With the limited educational tools it made it that much more challenging but I was determined to create not only beautiful edible art but a community I desired. 

My drive to succeeding mostly came from finding a community. The better I got at decorating the bigger the community got. From meeting people through my kids school & activities to the reach social media provided, it open the door from hobby to small home business. My first home business was located where we lived at the time, which was St Albert, Alberta and it was called Sweet Medley. 

Sweet Medley offered a range of baked goods from cookies to custom cakes. All of which I taught myself. While trying to run a home business and a household of two small kids seemed like a good idea they both required a lot of time. It is in my nature to give 110% in anything I do so 2018 I took a break to focus more on my family as providing a balance at the time seemed impossible.

The break only lasted a couple years as I missed it so much and needed to fill my creative side again. I decided to start baking again in January 2021. I was refreshed and ready to go with a new name and fresh ideas! We had moved to Sherwood Park in 2019 and found it to be a great supportive community.  

I instantly knew I wanted it to be called Wishes Bake Shop. I love the meaning and what the word WISHES represents. So many of us make or have at some point made a wish right? Wishes are part of the magic that represent our hopes, dreams, desires, heartfelt thoughts and prayers.

By the end of 2021, before celebrating a year of running Wishes from home I had this strong desire to reach a little further. I desired a space where I could connect with the community on a regular bases. Somewhere I could to provide a warm, loving, positive space for others. A space people would connect and leave better than when they arrived. I decided to sign on a commercial space and started on a new journey. 

Wishes opened its doors December 2, 2022. The store has generated and created a loving community that I hoped for since moving to a Canada. The support has been incredible and unimaginable. I'm so grateful and thankful. From what started from a space of needing a creative outlet and community, 15 years it has come full circle and my soul is so full. It has definitely exceeded my expectation. I love sharing a little piece of my heart and creativeness in every dessert. Thankful for the opportunity to make moments and days a little sweeter. Not only do I get to share but the trust, the sharing, the stories and experiences shared by our community I’ll cherish forever. Thank you, this gift is never taken for granted. 

One of my favorite things about baking and decorating has always been that no two orders are alike. I have also found this in people. Thank you for being part of this journey. Thank you for being here.

5 Fun Facts:

1. I actually don't like to eat sweets or candy. Chips, salsa, anything spicy and/or savory are my go to!
2. I'm 100% Mexican and fluent in Spanish. My husband is Czech and we call our kids "Czech-a-cans" as they are a unique commination.
3. My immediate family consists of 2 kids, husband Frank & 1 giant Pyre-doodle. All of my other family is back in California and Mexico. 
4. Haven't really had any alcoholic beverages in over a decade. Not a fan of drinking but I do love coffee & Coke Zero.
5. I'm a huge morning person, like jump out of bed excited at 5am to start my day! I love that each morning brings a fresh new start!
